When magic meets technology, the results are nothing short of breathtaking. In a landmark collaboration, Epson America Inc. partnered with Cirque du Soleil to bring ALIZÉ — Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever European residency show — to the stage at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
The production introduces a revolutionary performance style called “Acromagic,” a seamless fusion of traditional acrobatics and Magie Nouvelle (New Magic) with high-brightness projection.
“We needed a language to express everything we see in the
invisible world. Projection really helped us to find this language.”
Émilie Émiroglou
Director of Creation, ALIZÉ

Creating an Immersive Visual Canvas
The goal was to transform the theater from a simple stage into a “full stage-to-auditorium canvas.” By blurring the lines between physical reality and digital illusion, the production team achieved what they describe as a “very, very emotional” experience, allowing the audience to “see the hand of the artist” through light and movement.

Powering the Vision: The Epson EB-PU2220B Laser Projector
Central to this immersive environment is Epson’s advanced projection technology. To handle the “marathon length at a sprint pace” of a live residency, the production relied on eight Epson EB-PU2220B laser projectors.
Key Features of the Epson EB-PU2220B laser projectors used in Cirque du Soleil’s ALIZÉ:
- Exceptional Brightness: Each unit delivers 20,000 lumens of color and white brightness, essential for competing with stage lighting and creating vivid images across the entire auditorium.
- 3LCD Laser Technology: This ensures incredible color accuracy and precise calibration, allowing the digital art to blend directly into the artistic space without looking “projected.”
- Dynamic Alignment & Real-Time Tracking: Because the show features shifting set pieces and even projectors that physically move during scenes, the Epson EB-PU2220B projector works with real-time tracking and calibration tools to maintain pixel-perfect image placement on moving performers and objects.
- Reliability for Residency: Designed for demanding environments, these projectors provided the technical performance necessary to keep the “Acromagic” consistent night after night.
As the production team stated, the ultimate goal of the technology is to “make the impossible possible.” Through this partnership, Epson hasn’t just provided hardware; they’ve provided a new medium for one of the world’s most iconic creative companies.
